Courthouse Square Dedicated

Parish President Dave Peralta holds the ceremonial giant scissors to officially dedicate the new Courthouse Square building. Joining in the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann, Judge Perry Nicosia, Assessor-Elect Jaylynn Bergeron Turner, State Rep. Ray Garofalo, and Councilmembers Guy McInnis, Richie Lewis and Casey Hunnicutt.There were also representatives from FEMA, GOHSEP, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the St. Bernard Chamber of Commerce.

As a crowd of parish officials and community leaders gathered at the steps of the new Courthouse
Square building to officially open the facility, a group of St. Bernard deputies were in a classroom
on the second floor already putting the building to use by learning about Sovereign Citizens, the antigovernment organization whose members shot four St. John the Baptist Parish deputies, killing two.
The facility, which was built with $6 million of FEMA funds, houses the Office of the Assessor, the Office of the District Defender, Sheriff’s Support Offices, Sheriff’s Courthouse Holding Cells, State and Parish Parole Office, and the Public Defender’s Office.

Both Sheriff Jimmy Pohlmann and Parish President David Peralta noted that partnerships between the Sheriff’s Office, Parish Government, FEMA and GOHSEP.
