St. Bernard Parish Government hailed the June 16th Household E-Waste and Paint Collection a success and the first of several “green” initiatives that will be pursued by the local government in the future.

The recycling event was managed by the Saint Bernard Parish Government Grants Department.

Over sixty pieces of electronic equipment and many gallons of paint were collected will be reused and repurposed.

Many common household products contain materials with potentially hazardous elements that should be kept out of landfills.

“We intend to make the Household E-Waste and Paint Collection an annual event,” said Parish President David Peralta.

“We’re grateful for the participation of not only our partners and sponsors but to the many residents who made the extra effort to properly dispose of e-waste and other materials that should not be thrown in the trash,” said Peralta.

The parish’s e-waste and paint recycling day was held at the Saint Bernard Seafood and Farmers’ Market in Arabi in conjunction with The Green Project, CACRC and Keep Louisiana Beautiful.
